Jurga Barilaitė has studied painting. She is able to paint in a very sensitive and monumental manner, she also teaches painting, but most of her works are made in video media (video films and video installations).
Almost always Barilaitė acts herself in her videos. To be honest, it is not acting, rather a performance where artist body has to go through the real experiences. In “Storm in a glass” she is trying not to drown in the real water. Here Barilaitė visually stages the well-known saying „A storm in a glaus“, meaning a smals event that has been exaggerated ou tof proportion – an idiom most ofen used to characterize different public events.
In this work the image of woman (the artist hereself) convulsively trying to keep on the surface is projected onto a glass of milk. In this way the the artist offers to reflect the idiom from both domestic and feminine perspectives in the everyday life environment.
