A summer's day view of the East Front of the new palace designed by Sir Christopher Wren for William III and Mary II, built in the 1690s. Summer visitors stroll along the long Broad Walk, which stretches away toward the south, lined by herbaceous borders and ancient yew trees.

The large and exotic Bigonia Catalpa tree, seen against the brickwork of the palace exterior, was planted in the early 1800s by one of the Grace-and-Favour residents of the palace, Lady Mornington (the mother of the Duke of Wellington) in her private garden.
