The Church of St Andrew and Plymouth's Guildhall were badly damaged during bombing raids on the city in 1941. The part of the Guildhall containing the Municipal Offices was later demolished but the remainder of the Guildhall was restored and reopened in 1959. The Church of St Andrew was restored between 1949 and 1957 by Frederick Eschells.
