A wild relative of the banana we know and love

Meet a wild ancestor of the domesticated banana – Ensete livingstonianum. While the banana available in the market is a variety that has been domesticated, this wild relative isn’t edible. We study such varieties because they may possess beneficial traits of value in breeding programmes.
