This letter was wrote from Michelangelo to his friend Battista della Palla in September 1529 when the artist, supporter of the Florentine Republic, was forced to leave Florence, besieged by the imperial army. When he took refuge in Venice, in order to reach the French court, upon the invitation of Francesco I, he wrote to Battista della Palla, ambassador of Francesco I, to drive him on his journey. Battista answered reassuring him of the Florentine situation and suggesting to get back to Florence, when Michelangelo returned on 23 November of that same year.
