Cosimo de’ Medici, after trying in vain to convince Michelangelo to get back to Florence to carry out the New Sacristy, on 26 October 1559, addressed him this letter so that the artist give several drawings for the realization of the Church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini in Rome. Michelangelo, who had alredy given to the members several drawings for the project of the chrch, answered that was preparing a nice copy of it to be submitted to the judgment of the Duke. The project unfortunately did not go on and had to go until the end of the century for the realization of the church by Giacomo Della Porta and Carlo Maderno.
