This sonnet, here handwrote in beatiful calligrafy because it was intended to a collection, was made through a series of previous versions, documented since 1533. The componiment, probably dedicated to the young Tommaso Cavalieri, reflects about the origin of love in the perspective of Neoplatonic philosophy. The poetry shows the marginal corrections of Donato Giannotti, Florentine literary man, with which Michelangelo collaborated, along with Luigi del Riccio, to a project of a canzoniere ever concluded.
