The sheet shows four of the fifty epitaphs that Buonarroti wrote for the fifteen year old Cecchino Bracci, Luigi del Riccio’s nephew, who died prematurely. Luigi del Riccio, Michelangelo’s secretary and general superintendent of the Banca Strozzi Uliveri in Rome, commissioned to the artist these poems and the young’s funerary moment, designed by Michelangelo and carried out by his assistan Francesco d’Amatore in the roman church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli, were is still visible on the left wall of the lateral hall.
