The poetry, written with sophisticated hand, was probably conceived by Michelangelo to be given or to be inserted in a volume of poems. It’s about a madrigal dedicated to a “noble and pleasent woman” to identify with Vittoria Colonna, Michelangelo’s friend and confidant, to which he addresses a deeper appreciation with these verses.
