PETRIT HALILAJ, born in Kostërrc, Skenderaj-Kosovo, in 1986, presents an artistic practice influenced by the recent history of his homeland and by the consequences of cultural and political tensions in the region, transforming the experience of the Kosovo War into an example of identity affirmation and memory politics. Halilaj uses such questions as a starting point to elaborate alternative poetics of other possible worlds, emphasizing the importance of imagination in the processes of critical fabulation.
In Abetare (Car), 2015, the artist presents an installation inspired by the drawings of children abandoned in the classrooms of an old school in a Kosovar village. Through a characteristic spatial and material sensibility, Halilaj materializes the hope and aspirations of the youth of his country, thus bridging different worlds and generations. In short, his work shows how imagination allows us to organize reality, trying out other ways of living and dreaming collectively.
