ABOVE: General Electric jet center, Lockland Ohio. Dedicated March 18-19 on the 10th anniversary of the running of America's first jet engine and the GE Lynn, Mass. Plant. Utilizing nearly 4,000,000 square feet of floor space, the center encompasses facilities for development, parts production, assembly and test of turbojet engines for the Air Force. General Electric now occupies much of the plant which was erected in WWII for airplanes piston engines manufacturing and in addition has erected new office and factory buildings. Additional development facilities are under construction. The large building in the center is owned and occupied by the electric auto-light company. The building to the right if it has been leased by the GE from General Auto-light. The three structures on the far right are Air Force owned and occupied by GE. The tract at left is owned by GE and included the new factory and office buildings and development facilities. BELOW: seven aircraft jet engines, all developed by the GE Company's Aircraft Gas Turbine Division for the U.S. Air Force, graphically show evolution in size and design from the first engine built in this county, the General Electric I-A to the elongated J47-GE-17 and J-73, the company's latest turbojet. Not shown is the axial flow J-35 turbojet, for which engineering and manufacturing responsibilities were turned over to the Allison Division of General Motor Corp. several years ago."
