Aleksandr Rochenko explored the possibilities of constructivism in both painting and sculpture with his three-dimensional constructions, but at the same time he experimented with another kind of chromatic exuberance, strongly reminiscent of American abstract expressionism, such as his work Expressive Rhythm. Although Rochenko did not visit America and did not see works by Rothko or Pollock in person, he seems to have experimented heavily on chromatic autonomy and expression and gave us works such as Abstraction (Rupture).
