From the Arthur Trevena collection of photographs. Derailed railway passenger carriages at Dunachton on the Highland Railway, 4 August 1888. The carriages have fallen down an embankment. The crane that was brought to the crash site to recover the carriages has also derailed.
This accident was caused by a sudden jerk in the locomotive's movement and the carriages behind it were derailed. This was probably caused by the poor condition of the rolling stock.
