The tapestry illustrates one of the versions - perhaps the most romanticized - of Achilles' death. After the Trojan War, Achilles fell in love with a Trojan princess and, in the name of that love, renounced the Greek cause. Having made an appointment with her at the Temple of Apollo, he was surprised by Paris, Polyxena's brother, who, armed with a bow and arrow, wounded him in the heel.
