Acidic Lower Greenland

While the soil in the majority of Oxfordshire is alkaline clay, the Arboretum sits on a rare deposit of acidic Lower Greensand, which is why these acid-loving rhododendrons thrive here, like the vibrant Rhododendron 'Armistice Day'.
