The project originates from an analysis of the living conditions and habit of China's so called Ant Tribes.
The expression coined by sociologist Lian Si from Pekin University for his postdoctoral research (2009) designates demographic groups of young, unemployed or low-income graduates mostly born in the 1980s living in cramped housings often found in the outskirts of first and second-tier cities.
Overlapped Living is both a remedial strategy for existing buildings and a scalable model for desirable and efficient communal housing systems.
