The history of the art toy movement has roots in lowbrow culture, pop surrealism, comics, fantasy, science-fiction, and cult classics. Artists saw vinyl toys as a new canvas for a transformative brand of art___a conscious perversion and celebration of a historically significant superhero.__ The art toy movement brought subculture into the homes of many Americans and invited toy manufactures to expand the uniqueness of their mass marketed characters.

Brian McCarty, contemporary artist and photographer, composed photographs that chronicle the Art-Toy movement. He worked alongside international artists to provide a perspective on the art and commerce of the designer toy/urban vinyl movement. This toy was used for a photograph that is published is McCarty_s Art Toys.
