The Transformer line of action figures first appeared in the USA in 1984, and these toys remained incredibly popular for 30 years. The figures consist of puzzle-like pieces assembled as cars, planes, weapons, and other everyday objects. When the pieces are rearranged, the figures become robot warriors. Elaborate histories, individual biographies, and novel charts and graphs delineating unique abilities and strengths supplement each character. The Transformers' detailed back story has been revealed in TV series, several feature-length movies, video games, comic books, and other media. Intending to attract an ever-younger following, Hasbro in 2010 released Rescue Bots, Transformers aimed at the three to seven years olds that simplified the message of the line to emphasize heroic deeds and good works. Each Rescue Bot figure features a particular motor skill, which appeals to the parents of the youngest Transformer fans. Optimus Prime, long known as the leader of the Autobots, also heads the rescue crew. His team includes Bumblebee, Blade, a rescue chopper, Heatwave, a fire-bot, and others. The line also includes a rescue crew of humans who work with the Transformers.
