Originally based on a Martin Caidin novel, "Cyborg," the mid-1970's television series "The Six Million Dollar Man," enjoyed a large following. The series centered on Steve Austin, a NASA astronaut and test pilot mangled in the aircraft crash and repaired with bionic parts in place of the eye, arm, and both legs lost in the accident. These high-tech parts enabled Austin to triumph over the bad guys he took on each week as an agent of the Office of Scientific Intelligence. The series' success led to a spin-off, "The Bionic Woman," and after both series ended, the inevitable made-for-TV movie featured the wedding of the Bionic Man to the Bionic Woman. Both characters appeared in action figures, games, and other toys.
