In 1975, DC Comics published the _1st Issue Special #8.__ The comic featured The Warlord, a sword and sorcery character by Mike Grell. A year later, The Warlord appeared in his own series. In the series, Vietnam veteran pilot Travis Morgan (The Warlord) passed through a hole in the Earth while flying over the north pole and landed in the underground world of Skartaris. In this underground world, Morgan wields a pistol, teams-up with a princess, and transforms into The Warlord.

In 1982, Remco released Lost World of The Warlord, a series of action figures based on the comic books. The original line of figures were advertised alongside The Warrior Beast figures. The sets included a mixture of humans, rubber dinosaur head sculpts, and muscular body sculpts. The series resembled Mattel_s Masters of the Universe but did not achieve the same success. Today, Lost World of The Warlord and The Warrior Beast figures enjoy popularity among collectors who grew-up with the series.
