Osogbo, Nigeria

Adebisi Nurudeen is shown holding up a photograph of himself as a child between Susanne Wenger and his father, the great New Sacred Artist, Adebisi Akanji. Wenger's closest collaborator and co-creator of monumental sculptures in the Osun Grove. Akanji has successfully passed the artistic baton to Nurudeen, now the lead restoration artist in the Grove. Under the direction of Sangodare Ajala, Adebisi Nurudeen (b. 1967) has been responsible for mentoring the next generation of restoration artists. In addition to working in cement, he is also a master woodcarver, who, like other artists of the New Sacred Art Movement, brings a modern interpretation of traditional Yoruba artforms to his work. His works can be found at the Nike Art Gallery in Osogbo and Lagos, and in the shop in Susanne Wenger’s House.
