The 'Telstar' ball by Adidas was the official ball of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. The design quickly became the iconic football 'look', its black and white panels remaining part of the football's iconography decades after its first appearance.
The ball remains a tipping point, between the traditional brown and orange leather balls of the early and mid 20th century, and the modern, synthetic world of lighter coloured footballs, covered in their manufacturer's logos.
Part of the National Football Museum collection.
