The portrait of Adamas Jurgis Čartoriskias (1810), a luminary of the Republic of the Two Nations and the first curator of the reorganised Vilnius University and the Vilnius Educational District, is considered to be one of the most famous works by Juozapas Oleškevičius. As is typical of artists of this era, the work is distinguished by its subtle colour palette, static composition and meticulous drawing, which highlight the nobleman's strong and forceful personality.
