Commissioned by Palla Strozzi for the family chapel in the church of Santa Trinita, this altarpiece, signed and dated May 1423, is the artist's masterpiece, one of the most refined interpretations of late Gothic culture infused with court ideals. The various methods of gold leaf application and the use of precious pigments bring the splendor of a jeweller to this panel. From 1806 it was at the Accademia. Since 1919 it has been at the Uffizi.
