At the beginning of the 16th century, new artistic trends came to Kraków from Italy. In 1533, bishop Piotr Tomicki commissioned the Italian artist Gian Maria Mosca to create a tabernacle for the Wawel cathedral. Two reliefs depicting angels were created. They are a great example of a Renaissance Italian sculpture referring to ancient art.
