Brown rats are very adaptable and can be found anywhere in the UK. Although they have a bad reputation, they live alongside us with few problems.
Brown rats are easily distinguishable from any of Britain’s mouse species as they are much larger. They have brown fur, a pointed nose, large bare ears, and a long scaly tail.
Rats are famously good breeders. They begin breeding from three months old, and have an average of five litters a year. Litters tend to consist of around twelve young.
