With so many choices among cola beverages in contemporary times, it is difficult to believe that in 1968, there was no real alternative to ordinary Coca-cola. Of course, other brands like Pepsi were around, but there were no Diet Cokes, and no caffeine-free alternatives. Much of the company's advertising then featured the energizing quality of the beverage, due to the caffeine additive. A magazine ad describes a working mother's balancing act with two careers--mother and executive. Coke, apparently, made this easier for her.
