This newspaper clipping from the Benalla Standard, dated 23 April 1907, is an advertisement for the screening of The Story of the Kelly Gang, one of the earliest feature-length movies ever to be screened. Twenty-seven years after the demise of the Kelly Gang, interest in the outlaws showed no signs of waning. This level of enthusiasm proved to be a concern for the authorities, who disapproved of the notoriety that seemed to envelop the outlaws. The publicity prompted officials to place a ban on the movie as a way of containing public interest.
