Sound recorder B was a military version of the K4 tape recorder, which was used for radio reconnaissance during the Second World War. The recorder had such a good sound quality that after 1945, in Soviet-occupied East Berlin, it was converted into a studio tape recorder. In doing so, the tape deck was removed from the transport box and assembled in a metal casing, which incorporated the recording and playback amplifiers along with their controls beneath.
