August 2009, flying over the Mato Grosso region in Brazil, there is evidence of dramatic change. The entire ecosystem is threatened by the impacts of agriculture, along with the indigenous populations who make this their home. For them, the forest provides a habitat in which to live, an environment to practice traditional culture and a source of food. Reforestation is one practice in use in more recent years in order to replace forest which has been lost and are easy to spot from the sky: The tree-line is even and unbroken, leaves are the same shade of green and patterns can be seen within the plantation.
