The Farm and its historical buildings symbolize the federal government’s impact on Ottawa’s heritage, from its buildings to recreational opportunities, and even its street and subdivision layouts.
In this photograph of the CEF in March of 1961, the houses on the street in the bottom-left corner have a direct view of the CEF. The William Saunders building and the K.W. Neatby building had replaced the original “model farm” houses, demonstrating the new focus of the farm on laboratory research.
