This tile was manufactured by Minton's China Works between 1868 and 1874. Although it is unsigned, the design is attributed to Christopher Dresser.Dresser was an advisor to a number of English potteries at that time. He submitted his designs anonymously, but by the late 1870s his fame was so great manufacturers began to use his name in their marketing. This design of cranes, moon and waves was reinterpreted on a number of domestic items manufactured by Minton's in the late 1870s that were marketed as being designed by Dresser.
