Planting seeds of mangroves in Kenya

Mikoko Pamoja (meaning ‘Mangroves Together’) is Kenya's first community-led ‘blue forest’ carbon credit scheme, whereby members of the Gazi Bay community plant, restore and protect mangroves, and invest the profits back into their community. Mangroves can absorb four to five times the amount of carbon dioxide as normal trees, from the oceans, which absorb more than 90 percent of the Earth’s emissions.
