This image from the John Kenyan Chapman Papers shows recreation time during the African Liberation Support Committee Conference in Franklinton, N.C., in 1979. This was the same year that John Kenyan Chapman, the creator of this collection, survived the Greensboro Massacre. He became a social activist and community organizer in the 1960s primarily in North Carolina. He was also active as a graduate student in the 1990s and 2000s at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill organizing racial and social justice organizations.
