Stools are universal in Africa. They are found in almost all cultures in a multitude of variations, from the most ordinary specimen to extremely ornate versions including the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people in Ghana, the Asantehene who keeps the Golden Stool and is only viewed on ceremonial occasions. Simple versions of the Golden Stool are carved in wood as displayed.
