A young boy takes his first steps after suffering from a bout with polio. In 1949, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) partnered with the Jewish Agency and the Israeli government to create MALBEN, a comprehensive social services organization that created and operated institutions to assist the elderly, the chronically ill, and people with disabilities.
