[inglês][datilografado] Dear Senor Portinari: It is with perhaps understandable pride that we are writing to tell you that a copy of MADEMOISELLE’s first all-Latin-American issues going to you under separate cover shortly, with our compliments. It will leave here on February 26, the day the issue comes off the press. We like to think that issue will be of tremendous interest to our Latin-American friends in the Latin-American countries because its editorial content is entirely devoted to the Americas south of us. We have assigned special articles to Latin-American authors; our fiction has been contributed by young Latin-American writers; most of the art work was done by Latin-Americans; two of our editors, accompanied by mannequins and photographers, made special trips to Mexico, Yucatan and Brazil to do research, interview representative people and make fashion photographs in the beautiful atmosphere of your part of our hemisphere. In short, the issue will report on outstanding young women of the Latin-American countries, their interest, development, education, social life and so on. We feel that this kind of coverage should stimulate interest in, and travel to, Latin America. Therefore, we think it will help promote, in so far as our sphere of influence permits, good-neighbor relations between the Americas. Unfortunately, the shortage of paper which now exists makes it impossible for us to increase our print order to permit circulation of this special issue south of the border. But because we believe that ours is an important project, we have away five hundred copies from our necessarily limited and precious newsstand distribution here and have earmarked them especially for Latin America. Yours is one of those special copies which we are sending gratis to five hundred of the most representative people in the Latin-American countries.
