Again Again (Monumental)

Brett Murray's Again Again brings together two important aspects of his career: political commentary and an interest in popular culture. Again Again features two identical bulls that are back to back. Traditionally
symbolizing wealth, virility and strength, and acting as a bridge between the divine and the corporeal in many Southern African cultures, here the bulls are rendered inert through their cartoon like modelling and flawless surface. Again Again, made in the midst of the controversy surrounding President Jacob Zuma's upgrades to his Nkandla estate, can be interpreted as a criticism of South Africa's political leadership who are privately benefiting from government positions but failing to close the gap in income inequality. Arguably, Murray sees this as a preposterous cycle that keeps repeating itself.
