"This artworks originates from a black and white photograph shot on Gaza, during the 1st uprising in Gaza.
As I was interested in photographing gaffiti at the time, this work comes from a very large collection of photographs done during that period.
After the bombing of Gaza in 2009, I found this image in my archives, with the figure (Handala) which is an iconic cartoon figure of a boy with his face againts the wall, who in time became symbolic of the Palestinians in general. The figure was created by Naji Al Ali, a well known cartoonist who was killed in the 80's (no one knows who killed Him)...and it became a popular symbol that appears everywhere in Palestine.
The original photograph was manipulated and the figure of the boy multiplied to represent children , whose life is shattered and who are pushed againts the wall. Having no choice in the making of their destiny."
