A point, lace chape, aglet or aiglet. These objects are known by all these names. It is made of tinned iron cut to shape and bent into a tube. This example has a punched flower decorations, which is an unusual feature. Points were stiched to the ends of lace to protect them from wear and facilitate threading through the fastening holes.
