The concept and setting behind the piece is “The Skull” from the woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, “In the Ruined Palace at Sōma”, overcoming “the Great Wave” in “Under the Wave off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai, travels through time, and visits mermaids in Cony Island of present day. This piece is an homage to the “pop culture” of the Edo period and “street culture” today.
