Airey Houses under construction, Chingford, Waltham Forest, Greater London

The Airey system of house construction was designed by the builder Sir Edwin Airey. An aspect of the system was that the precast concrete blocks used in construction were small enough to be handled by one or two workmen. Around 26,000 Airey homes were built in the period up to 1955.
