Airplane Douglas C-47 B-45 (DC-3) ⁣

The Douglas C-47 B-45 (DC-3) was a plane manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, California, United States between 1936 and 1953 and became a landmark in civil aviation. During World War II it became a symbol of the feminist movement, because with men at war, the maintenance of the plane and its equipment was carried out by women. After the end of the combat, about 90% of the world air traffic was performed by the model that was renewed with more civil characteristics and in Brazil it was no different, since practically all Brazilian airlines started to operate with the DC-3 model, performing domestic routes, which was previously unviable. The model was used in Brazil until the 1970s. ⁣

The DC-3 model exhibited in the exhibition area of ​​the Catavento Museum was initially built to be a military model, with two R-1830 engines and with extra fuel capacity, allowing routes such as China - Burma - India, used as a freighter in World War II . ⁣

At the end of the war it was purchased by VASP (Viação Aérea de São Paulo, which stopped operating in 2005) in 1946 and adapted for the civilian version of the same plane, DC-3, carrying out passenger transport and operating between Rio de Janeiro - São Paulo until 1972. The Technology Museum of São Paulo, better known as FMT-SP acquired the airplane in 1980, which was renovated by the Brazilian Air Force, using parts from other aircraft.
