This is a black and white photograph of Airways (India) Limited's VT-CQA in flight. AIL was founded in September 1945, and flew non-scheduled services in eastern British India, between Calcutta and Assam and into Burma.
This ill-fated De Havilland aircraft (model DH 104 Dove 1) was on its way to join the AIL fleet in January 1947, when it crashed into Mount Urbanu, 40 miles from Rome, Italy.
