The 1947 Partition Archive
Delhi, India

Ajit Cour recalls how she and her family left their home in Lahore for Shimla, expecting to return within fifteen to twenty days. Her grandparents, however, stayed behind. She clearly remembers her father's shock on hearing the announcement of Partition on the radio. After journeying for thirteen days to reach Lahore, he eventually found his parents in a refugee camp. She describes how traumatic it was for people to leave their lands and homes, and to never return.
