Al-Khuraymat lies to the southwest of the Hegra site. This collective area of rocky outcrops features approximately 53 tombs, with differing facades and ornamentation. Many of them have been affected by weathering. Tomb IGN 100, one of the largest and perhaps most significant of Hegra’s monumental tombs, is found here. Only tombs IGN 46 and IGN 110 are larger, but unlike IGN 100, they remain unfinished.
IGN 100 is the fourth tomb on the southern side of al-Khuraymat, and has a prominent facade. The elaborate carvings and character of the tomb would seem to be a key factor in its position on such a prominent point of the outcrop. It is the first tomb of the group seen from a distance and occupies one of the highest points of the cliff.
Several interesting, new or rare features mark its architecture, including elements seen on the dwarf pilasters; four pillars that hold Nabataean capitals, carved with remarkable symmetry. In order to accommodate the height, and to place the corniche where it is, the tomb craftsmen had to make the base of the demi-battlements much wider than usual. The tomb has a total of 26 structures that include funeral niches, caissons (of which four are outside) and one pit.
