Alabaster urn

Koper Regional Museum

Koper Regional Museum
Koper, Slovenia

This (gypsum) alabaster urn was buried in child’s grave number 6 at the Križišče ancient burial site near Spodnje Škofije. It was made of Tuscan alabaster that probably came from one of the alabaster workshops of Volterra, an important centre of alabaster production. The urn has been approximately dated to the third quarter of the first century AD (from Novšak, 2010).
