Alongside subjects with a spiritual content, views of old Nuremberg were a popular souvenir even among the town's residents themselves. This picture of Albrecht Dürer's House on Tiergärtnertorplatz was probably made from memory, or from records of the "good old days" before the city's destruction. That means this 1946 watercolor is a memorial picture to commemorate the past. The piece is one of a kind, and was probably not intended for commercial purposes. It reproduces the artist's view of a building he had known since childhood, and with which he felt a close emotional bond.
