Not quite ten years before Dürer's house was converted to a memorial, Johann Christoph Erhard (1795-1822) recorded the most popular view of the building, looking at its corner from the northeast. To give a sense of its considerable size, he added a few supernumerary people strolling down the steep slope.
The picture also includes the low well house that bounded the courtyard Dürer acquired in 1512, down the street in the direction of the city wall. Like the house next door, it is long gone.
