This is an album of 12 fan panels featuring paintings by 12 painters and calligraphers in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1912 AD) including Yang Biaozheng, Chen Zhengyan, Ji Bing, Shi Shenyi, Tang Zhiguang, Cheng Ganyuan, Xu Qiqing, Qin Shi, etc.
Yang Biaozheng, a native of Gongchuan town, Yong’an city of China’s southeastern Fujian province during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644 AD), was also a renowned zither player. Committed to the art of zither music for his entire life, Yang published A Revised of Ancient Chinese Zither Sheet Music (ten volumes), which has been revised and republished for multiple times from the Ming dynasty until now, exerting great influence on the music development of China. Apart from being an exceptional zither player and scholar, he was also a good calligrapher. The fan panel with Yang’s calligraphy, together with 11 other painters and calligraphers of the Ming and Qing dynasties, makes this album a valuable collection.
